Falling Spores

When I photographed this Entoloma sp. mushroom I wasn’t aware that I captured the spores ejecting. Thanks to the positioning of my flash and the shadow under the mushroom, the spores are highly contrasted and easily visible. Entoloma spores are pink, you can even see some piling up on the edges of the gills! I photographed this in Crystal River, Florida.

This also turned out to be a new species of Entoloma. Work is underway to get the species described.
